We offer a range of clinics and services at the surgery. There are some tasks you can do, such as health reviews, using our online forms.
Health checks
All patients over 75 who do not already attend the surgery for an annual review are welcome to book a health check with the healthcare assistant. Our healthcare assistant will check your blood pressure, weight, height, blood pressure and enquire about any health needs. Please book with the receptionist if you wish to have a health check.
Contraceptive implant clinics
Contraceptive services and advice, including contraception implant fitting service now available with our female GP, please ask the reception team for further details.
Minor illness clinic
Our minor illness nurse will be able to treat you for minor ailments, such as ear ache, rashes, sore throats etc.The receptionists have all been trained to help triage your ailments and will ask if you would like to see the nurse who can prescribe if required.
If you wish to see the nurse, rather than a doctor, please tell the receptionist when you book your appointment.
Private medical examinations
We carry out routine medical examinations for insurance companies and employers. There is a charge for such medicals which sometimes has to be paid by the patient personally. This will usually be the case for HGV and taxi driver licences, and for the fitness to drive medicals required by most insurance companies for those over 70. Please ask the receptionist about charges when you book a medical.
Private healthcare
We are happy to refer patients who wish to see a specialist in private practice, and we do not charge for organising this. We do make a charge for the completion of claim forms for private health insurance eg BUPA, PPP etc. A full schedule of fees, updated in April each year, is available on request from the secretary.
Sickness certificates
If you are off work for less than seven days you are responsible for your own self-certification on form SC2, which can be found on the GOV.UK website.
If your employer will not accept an SC2 we can issue a private medical certificate for which we charge a fee. After seven days you will be entitled to an NHS medical certificate.
Travel
The practice nurse can advise you about all aspects of travel immunisation. Please make an appointment to see them as far in advance of your holiday as possible.
No immunisation schedule can give you 100% protection. You must still take precautions against mosquitoes. Drink bottled water only, if you must drink ordinary water either boil it or add purifying tablets. If you become ill after returning from abroad you must consult a doctor.
Substantial protection can be provided against:
- Malaria
- Polio
- Rabies
- Tetanus
- Typhoid
- Meningitis
- Yellow fever
- Some forms of hepatitis
We provide most immunisations (excluding yellow fever) at the practice.
Not all travel vaccines are available on the NHS, therefore a charge will incur. There is also a charge for certificates.
Hepatitis B
Certain occupational groups such as police and prison officers, doctors, dentists and nurses, should be immunised.
Influenza
Elderly people and those with heart, lung and kidney problems, diabetes and asthma. The practice offers vaccinations in October and November to patients in these groups.
